Dell Significantly Reduce China-Made Chips by 2024
"Nikkei News" reported that the US computer brand #DellTechnologies intends to stop using Chinese-made chips by 2024 and notify suppliers to significantly reduce other "Made in China" components.
Last year, Dell and HP shipped more than 133 million PCs in 2021, according to Canalys estimates. The two companies' main assembly bases are located in Kunshan and Chongqing, Jiangsu Province, China.
In the past, computer makers such as Dell and Hewlett-Packard bought #Chips without worrying too much about where those chips were made, but the change in attitude surprised in the #ChineseSemiconductors industry.
Dell notified suppliers late last year that it wanted to "significantly reduce" the use of Chinese-made chips, . Dell's goal is to source all chips for its products from factories outside of China by 2024.
This goal is quite aggressive, not only do not use chips currently produced by Chinese chip manufacturers, but also do not use chips produced by non-Chinese suppliers in Chinese factories. "If suppliers do not respond, they may eventually lose Dell's orders."
